HRSA/MCHB – CYSHCN Definition

Since MCHB began the Healthy & Ready to Work initiative in 1996, the terminology youth with special health care needs (YSHCN) and children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) has been used.

HRSA/MCHB – Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN)

MCHB defines CYSHCN as those who have or are at risk for chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional conditions who require health and related services of a type or amount beyond that required by CY generally.
