HRTW - Youth as Advisors: A New Generation of Leaders
Working With Youth and Young Adults With Special Health Care Needs

HRTW 2 GO
PURPOSE: The voice of youth and young adults with special health care needs offers important insights for health care providers and policymakers on state and national levels. They are the new partners. It is time to provide a forum for their voices that will impact service systems and improve systems of care. It is important to nurture and provide opportunities for youth to speak and participate in planning services, creating policy and evaluating systems of care. This policy brief provides guidance, sample application and web resources to assist providers in increasing involvement of youth leaders. The Center also provides public education, leadership development and training, technical assistance and information dissemination to disability groups, international, national, State, local, and private sector leaders and others interested in learning about the complex details of, and the relationships among various laws and programs affecting individuals with disabilities and their families.
